Lao PDR has the most water resources of any Asian country per-capita. But much of it is unsafe:
over a quarter of the population has not access to safe drinking-water source. Water borne diseases from unsafe sources – the most common being diarrhea, causing a huge death rate in the country every year. – The main way to prevent illness from the water in rural Lao PDR is to boil it on an open fireplace causing high emissions of greenhouse gases and negatively affecting the people’s health too.

In this context, LIRE is leveraging its experience in solar-powered water purification to provide clean water to rural and remote locations.
